Hopefully, we'll see more #JusticeForPenny as this season of The Big Bang Theory continues. The only crime is that her role in this episode was to service Raj and Sheldon's story, and not her own. When Raj tries to convince Penny that he can handle a casual relationship, and Penny serves up the honest truth in the form of facial expressions and jumbled laughs, Raj wants to know why she keeps "doing that with your face?" Her response: "Because you keep saying stupid things with yours!"Ĭlearly, Penny is not here for anyone's stupidity. Magnetic Floating Bed: All That Luxury For Mere 1. Later in the episode, Raj pays a visit to Penny's therapy corner kitchen (I mean, she should start charging a fee at this point) and asks for advice with Ruchi. When Sheldon bans Penny from the apartment for numerous minor infractions, she decides to retaliate. Once again, the narrative is that it's OK for a guy to have casual sex-but, according to Sheldon, a woman has a "checkered past" if she conducts her life in the same manner. What's even more ironic is that at the same time Sheldon is slut-shaming Penny, in another scene Bernadette and Howard are pushing Raj to have casual sex with Ruchi. And two, it's none of Sheldon's business what Penny does in private. Sheldon is content spending his nights playing Klingon Boggle with their socially dysfunctional friends. All this begins to change when a free-spirited beauty, Penny, moves in next door. For one, having casual-and hopefully safe-sex is nothing to be ashamed about. Leonard and Sheldon are brilliant physicists, but none of that genius helps them interact with people, especially women. For the rest of us, it was a great response to a ridiculous remark. It’s all fairly forgettable.Sheldon being Sheldon, he had no idea what that was in reference to. Raj scares off his other date by behaving as terrifyingly with her as he has with many women before, the only difference this time being that he doesn’t have the excuse of being drunk, as he can now take women out for coffee. Lucy is seeing someone else, which perhaps explains why she’s a little more comfortable talking and asking for a different waitress than she was before (we like to think she’s playing her ukulele for Ted from Scrubs, as Kate Micucci will always be Gooch to us). In the B plot, thanks to Penny, Raj first tries to get back together with Lucy, then tries going out on a blind date, both disastrously. People who liked The Big Bang Theory also liked.
Leonard, having railed against Sheldon’s ‘over-reactions’ at the beginning, is driven crazy and his behaviour becomes increasingly erratic as a result of the constant tension caused by the jumper, which is a lovely metaphor for how Sheldon feels about many things, and once again shows a level of respect for Sheldon and for his condition that hasn’t always been obvious in previous years, but has been coming to the fore towards the end of season six and in this season. In this episode, Penny is introduced to the world of online gaming, where she becomes so obsessed that she forgets to go to work, shower, or even date. Of course, we all know that there will be a reason for Sheldon’s calm, and while Amy, with a combination of fear and pride, calls it ‘diabolical,’ it certainly demonstrates the one thing that Sheldon is so proud of about himself but that he so rarely demonstrates outside of theoretical physics – he really is very clever. As the third episode in Season 2, 'The Barbarian Sublimation' deserved a higher rating strictly based on Penny's change of lifestyle. The make-up department also have fun making Leonard’s reaction to the wool of the jumper more and more extreme, though this perhaps backfires a little bit towards the end as poor Leonard appears to be in so much pain that the whole thing starts to go beyond a joke a bit. When Sheldon bans Penny from the apartment for numerous minor infractions, she decides to retaliate. Galecki gets to do some fun physical comedy, while Parsons’ maintained calm, as Penny observes in the opening, is so different from Sheldon’s normal behaviour that it’s positively unnerving. The great thing about this plot is that it allows Johnny Galecki as Leonard to play some broad comedy while Jim Parsons as Sheldon gets to be the straight guy for once, which after so many years is a nice role reversal.
